Η Rachel Keller με τον γιο της Aidan κατάφεραν να σωθούν από την κατάρα της Samara και της σατανικής βιντεοκασέτας και μετακόμισαν πια σε ήσυχο προάστιο. Όμως ένας περίεργος θάνατος θα επαναφέρει τον τρόμο και το κυνηγητό θα ξαναρχίσει. Η Samara ψάχνει απεγνωσμένα την μητρική αγάπη που στερήθηκε δύο φορές και ο Aidan θα βρεθεί στο στόχαστρό της. Ο κύκλος ανοίγει και πάλι και το κακό πρέπει να κάνει τον κύκλο του... Το 1998 στην Ιαπωνία ο Hideo Nakata σκηνοθετεί μια ταινία ονόματι "Ringu" και σπέρνει τον πανικό στους συμπατριώτες του και στα ταμεία των κινηματογράφων. Τον επόμενο χρόνο σκηνοθετεί το sequel "Ringu 2" που είναι σαφώς κατώτερο του πρώτου. Το 2000 το τρίτο μέρος καλείται να δώσει εξηγήσεις για το τι συνέβη πιο πριν, με τον τίτλο "Ringu 0" χωρίς όμως τον σκηνοθέτη των δύο πρώτων. Μια τόσο επιτυχημένη saga δεν αργεί να προσελκύσει το αμερικάνικο ενδιαφέρον. Το 2002 δημιουργείται το remake του πρώτου με τον τίτλο "The Ring". Έχει λίγες αλλά προσεγμένες σεναριακές διαφορές, σκηνοθέτη τον Gore "Pirates Of The Caribbean" Verbinski και πρωταγωνίστρια την πάντα άψογη Naomi Watts. Η ταινία αποσπά καλές κριτικές, κάνει καλή πορεία στο box-office και γίνεται αποδεκτή ακόμα και από όσους απεχθάνονται τα αμερικάνικα remakes. Αναμενόμενο ήταν να γυριστεί και το "The Ring 2". Η έκπληξη όμως είναι το γεγονός ότι το σενάριο του "The Ring 2" δεν βασίζεται στο "Ringu 2" αλλά ξαναγράφτηκε από την αρχή! Στην σκηνοθετική καρέκλα προσκλήθηκε ο Hideo Nakata για να προσδώσει κάτι από το αρχικό ύφος στο κλίμα.
